Decoded

8TH – 30th March 6PM.

Decoded is a contemporary African art exhibition presented in Prague as part of Ghana Culture Week. Featuring works by Ghanaian artists Yaw Tony, Dela Quarshie, and Kwadwo Peprah, the exhibition explores how cultural knowledge shapes the way we see and understand art.
Each artwork carries meanings that operate on more than one level. Viewers can engage with the visible elements, bold colour, intricate pattern-making, and striking compositions while also encountering references rooted in Ghanaian history, symbols, and everyday life. These cultural codes add depth to the works without closing them off, inviting curiosity rather than requiring prior knowledge.
What connects the three artists is a shared Ghanaian heritage and a distinct visual language. Through their individual approaches to symbolism, material, and form, Decoded highlights how contemporary African artists translate personal and cultural narratives into compelling visual experiences that resonate beyond borders.

Adinkra

The Names that carry Us
In collaboration with @galerie.art.brno, Indelibl presents the work of @yawtony in a Solo Exhibition as part of Ghana Culture Week 2026 taking place across 3 cities in the Czech Republic.

Adinkra symbols form a visual archive of Akan knowledge, embedding history, philosophy, and social values within Ghana’s cultural fabric. More than decorative motifs, they carry proverbs, ancestral wisdom, and ethical reflection, expressing the relationship between humanity, community, and nature. Rooted in Asante traditions of eloquence and proverbial speech, Adinkra functions as a dynamic visual language, each symbol a condensed narrative or gesture made visible. While grounded in a core meaning, their interpretations remain open, shaped by context and use. This multivocality enables the symbols to respond to changing social realities, offering critique, guidance, and aspiration.

Presented here as a living system rather than a fixed heritage. Adinkra continues to evolve. Each reinterpretation renews ancestral knowledge, weaving contemporary experience into an ongoing continuum of memory and cultural dialogue.

ADINKRA; THE NAMES THAT CARRY US proposes that culture is sustained not by preservation alone, but by participation. The names endure because they are spoken again. The symbols carry us because we continue to carry them into new histories, new struggles, and new imaginations of community.
