FAMOUS ARTIST Hanson Akatti
Is a Ghanaian digital artist, graphic designer, and illustrator born on January 21, 1989 based in Accra whose work seamlessly blends his passions for music, graffiti, film, hip hop culture, and comic books.
He has developed a distinctive perspective on culture and metropolitan life in the capital through the creation of cartoonish characters and colorful illustrations. While renowned for his unique airbrush style, Hanson is equally recognized for his whimsical caricatures of popular artists and celebrities. His art explores the many facets of the human experience, presenting faces that are at once familiar and intriguingly unfamiliar, reflecting both personal and collective narratives within contemporary Ghanaian society.
Hanson made his first mark on the art scene early in the mid-2000’s with a series of wildly popular illustrations, one of them beingThe School Boy (2007). Since then, Hanson Akatti’s artwork has graced the covers and pages of magazines like Canoe (2009) and album covers for Efya (Janesis, 2016), M.anifest (Nowhere Cool, 2016), E.L (Something Else, 2012). Some of his collaborations include projects with high-profile brands such as Penguin, Audible, Union Square, The L.A Times, This is Accra, Bohten and Nestle.
He has earned international recognition for his work.
He has been featured in festivals such as the Re:publica Digital Culture Festival (2018), artist residencies including Seven Stories (2020), exhibitions like Reclaiming Public Space at Flat 70 (2021) and Cosmobib (2023), as well as publications including It’s Nice That (2023) and Shado Magazine (2021) in the UK. Through his art, Hanson envisions an Africa that celebrates and embraces its own people and culture, a vision he actively brings to life by exploring contemporary social narratives, culture, and metropolitan life in his unique, vibrant style.
