FAMOUS ARTIST Selorm Amekorfia
Selorm Amekorfia (born 1991, Accra, Ghana) is a Ghanaian multidisciplinary artist whose work is distinguished by the innovative and poetic use of broken mirrors, glass, and paint to create portrait mosaics and sculptural compositions.
Through his self-taught practice, Amekorfia transforms fragments of reflective material into layered visual narratives that explore identity, memory, healing, and the duality of fragmentation and wholeness.
Amekorfia draws deeply on personal and societal experiences, believing that art can function as a tool for healing and communication: his use of vibrant colours juxtaposed with shattered surfaces becomes a metaphor for resilience “reshaping broken selves into something whole and beautiful.”
In doing so, his work invites engagement with themes of selfhood, transformation, vulnerability, and the layered nature of human experience.
His growing recognition in Ghana’s contemporary art scene is evidenced by his participation in noteworthy exhibitions: for example, in 2024, Amekorfia was featured in the group show A Gentle Seed: New Works from Ghana at McLennon Pen Co. Gallery, among other Ghanaian artists.
More recently, his works have been presented in an exhibition titled Memories in Form by WorldFaze Art Practice, a show that highlights his distinctive style of portrait-mosaic and sculptural forms.
Through his inventive material approach and emotionally resonant themes, Selorm Amekorfia continues to carve a meaningful space for himself within Ghana’s contemporary art landscape challenging viewers to reflect on beauty, healing, memory, and the profound potential locked within brokenness.
