Daniel Kwesi Mensah also known as ‘’Scrappa’’ is a multidisciplinary creative and artist. His artwork can be described as ‘’refined street art’’ or ‘’pop-art’’. This is primarily because of the context of his work as he is mostly recognised as a muralist. This technique is transferred unto the canvas and other media.

His artwork is heavily inspired by hip-hop culture taking on hip-hop related subjects, motifs and graphic elements with graffiti spray paint being the main technique. Taking on various forms such as site-specific wall murals, installations or on canvas, plywood, roofing sheets, metals among other materials.

Using hip-hop as a subject matter, allows the work to relate with youth culture and its familiar street sensibilities. This exploration also gives his work a transcultural appeal in its iconographic and aesthetic nature. His personal experiences as an all-round multidisciplinary singer, actor, model, and musician adds to the many layers of his artistry embodied in the artwork he produces.

Although his practice is currently situated in Labadi, Accra and its environs, his upbringing in Lagos, Nigeria greatly influences his art and drive. The vibrancy and energy he experienced there is something that continuously pushes him beyond his comfort zone.
