The gallery grew substantially and now occupies a creative building (Samlotte House), designed by the architect Kenneth Scott.
The Loom started humbly as a small handicraft shop at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, a building rumored to be “haunted.” From there it grew to become a central hub of Ghana’s art scene.
Over time, as Ghana’s art scene matured, The Loom played a pivotal role: it offered a reliable venue for artists to exhibit, sell, and connect with art lovers, patrons and collectors.
Its founder Frances Ademola is regarded as a “doyenne” of Accra’s art world, and through The Loom helped elevate Ghanaian contemporary and modern art at a time when the local art infrastructure was still nascent.
Considered one of Ghana’s most enduring and influential private galleries.
It’s been instrumental in promoting Ghanaian art and artists for decades.
The gallery celebrated its 50th anniversary with an exhibition of works by prominent Ghanaian artists, marking its importance in Ghana’s art history.
